Selected Festivals and Performances

            Knoxville Storytelling Festival: Knoxville, IA, 2013. One of seven featured tellers at this inaugural weekend event.

Lincoln HIghway Arts Festival: Mt. Vernon, IA, 2013. At this outdoor art festival I performed shadow puppet stories and helped guests make shadow puppets and perfrom their own stories.

Heartland Storytelling Festival: Homestead National Monument, Beatrice, NE. Featured Teller, April 2011, 2012. For this  festival that celebrates the stories of pioneers I created a long form story about the settlement of Pella, Iowa, by the Dutch in 1847.


Union
County Diversity Festival: Creston, IA. Featured Teller. February 2011.The theme of this year’s festival was historic diversity in Iowa. I created stories for kindergarten through college about Iowa’s early settlers.


Tales for a Winter’s Night:
Cedar Rapids, IA. December 2010. For this evening of storytelling I told my favorite stories and premiered a historic 1906 one-man melodrama, “The Mosquito’s Revenge.”

All Things Scottish: CelticFest 2009
, 2011. Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Featured Teller. This festival, one of the largest Celtic events in Iowa, has been running for over 20 years.

Chalk the Walk:
2008, 2009, 2011. Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Teller. I shared stories of Iowa’s heritage and favorite folk tales of old Iowa for artists and visitors at this madonarri festival.


Charlotte
’s Web: A Group Storytelling Project. 2008. Director and Teller. I and a group of eight storytellers worked together to tell this classic children’s story outdoors at a small farm life zoo.


Bonfire Storytelling Night
: 2008-2010. Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Producer, Teller. A monthly summer and fall program to bring stories to families around the bonfire and encourage them to share their stories as well.


Fairy Tale Festival
: Ushers Ferry Historic Village, 2001-2010. Founder, Producer, Teller. This event was the largest storytelling festival in Eastern Iowa.

Educational Storytelling

Storyteller in Residence: Viola Gibson Elementary School and Cleveland Elementary School, Cedar Rapids, IA.  Through the course of the school year I visit each grade, pre-school through fifth several times with stories on topics ranging from wetland life to civil rights.


Asperger’s Program Storytelling Class:
Eastern Iowa Arts Academy and Four Oaks. Summer 2011. This was a nine week program I created to teach storytelling for Four Oaks’ Summer Asperger’s Program for high school students.


Storytelling Through Shadow Puppets: The Zach Johnson Foundation, Kids on Course, Eastern Iowa Arts Academy. Fall 2011. This seven week class brought second grade students into the magical world of shadow puppets.

Morbid Curiosities: A Conversation with Edgar Allan Poe: This first person program introduces middle and high school students to the story of Poe’s life and several of his best tales and poems. Fall 2010, Spring 2011.


School Performances:
Programs performed at schools, after school programs, and day care centers around Eastern Iowa on folk tales, immigration, Iowa history, and more.


Community Storytelling

Retirement Homes: Monthly and bi-monthly storytelling at retirement homes around Eastern Iowa.


Church Groups:
Programs featuring hymns and the stories behind them.
